My hunt with RMR this year was one that I won’t soon forget. The elk were bugling every day some days all day long from there bed. We had numerous encounters. Called in more elk this year than ever before. Unfortunately we were not successful due to a wind switch, being seen, having a bull lose interest because he’s not seeing what he’s hearing, or just not a legal elk in range. I had elk with in 10 feet just weren’t legal. We camped on the ranch and were able to hear elk bugle from the tent 3 out of 6 nights we camped. The weather was great lows in the 20’s and highs in the 60’s. We had a small skiff of snow the first morning. In the video I attached if you look closely you can see elk moving all around on the hill side. There were 6 bulls and 15+/- cows that we saw. You can also hear them screaming at each other if you listen closely.

If you are thinking of hunting with RMR I would not worry about other hunters scaring elk from the properties in previous weeks. I have hunted 2 different properties the 4th week of archery season and have seen plenty of elk. I personally do not let that impact when I book. In my opinion book the week you want and plan to see elk.

Plan on all types of weather. From my experience hunting elk for several years Colorado weather can swing from teens to 90’s most anytime in September.

Keep in mind when calling it’s all about the conversation your having with the elk. May sound silly but doing your homework and understanding what they are saying to you and what your saying to them will change the amount of close encounters you have. (Meaning a bugle isn’t just a bugle there are many different sounds and tones that will tell you what a bulls emotional state is). It has most definitely increased the amount of close encounters I have.
